Professor Theo Andrew

Professor Theo Andrew qualified and worked, lectured, and consulted in the field of Electrical Engineering for over 25 years. He is a Fellow of the South African Institute of Electrical Engineers (SAIEE), and served as its KZN Branch Chair and Honorary Vice-President, and as one of its Vice-Presidents. He is also a member of the International Society for the Systems Sciences (ISSS) and a founding member of the Board of the South African Society for Engineering Educators (SASEE). Professor Andrew is a member of the Higher Education Quality Council of South Africa. He has served on several boards and professional forums.

Professor Andrew holds a PhD in the area of rural telecommunications planning from the University of Natal, and serves as a specialist reviewer for the National Research Foundation (NRF). He was the leader of the NRF funded Research Unit in ICT and Development, and the manager of the Telkom-Ericsson Centre of Excellence in Rural Telecommunications at the Durban Institute of Technology. His research interests include rural telecommunications, systems thinking, developmental engineering, and engineering education. He continues to publish and supervise masters and doctoral candidates.
